Dr Brettany K. Hartwell (Bee) is an Academic and Professional Tutor within the Psychology department at the University of Southampton and continues to practice as an Educational Psychologist for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council. Bee coordinates the third year of the doctorate in Educational Psychology, teaches across all 3 years of the course, and is a personal tutor and thesis supervisor. She also teaches on the undergraduate module,’ Introduction to Educational Psychology’.

Bee’s research interests are particularly focused on participatory research with vulnerable groups of young people, inclusive approaches in schools and communities, and positive psychology. This has included research exploring the regulation of attention through sensorimotor activity, the impact of labels for children and young people, the role of nurture groups, the experiences of care leavers, the experiences of children of imprisoned parents, the role of adaptive perfectionism for young people, the use of iCBT approaches in schools and young people’s views and experiences of mental health support.

Bee is module lead for PYSC 8044 and PYSC 8046

She teaches on the following modules: PYSC 3057, PYSC 6070, PYSC 6071, PYSC 8041 and PYSC 8044.
