Max is a Research Fellow in Health Psychology whose interests and expertise include motivation towards healthy lifestyles, physical activity behaviour change, healthy ageing and the prevention and management of chronic disease.

Max moved to the University of Southampton in December 2017 having spent 5 years at the University of Bath where he completed his PhD and supported two large randomised controlled trials.

For his PhD and research role with the Multidimensional individualised Physical Activity for behaviour Change using Technology (Mi-PACT) trial Max used qualitative and quantitative methods to explore the efficacy of presenting visual feedback across several health harnessing aspects of physical activity to support behaviour change in individuals at heightened risk of type-2 diabetes and/or cardiovascular disease.

Max subsequently undertook a postdoctoral position on the on-going REtirement in ACTion (REACT) study where he supported the successful recruitment and assessment of over 750 pre-frail older adults into an trial evaluating an exercise intervention to improve mobility and wellbeing.

His present research involves designing and evaluating digital interventions to support changes in behaviour and improve health. He is currently supporting the development and evaluation of RECON, an online physical activity and brain training intervention aimed at reducing cognitive impairment in older adults.
