Dr Sharon Pettit is Lecturer CBT (IAPT) within Psychology at the University of Southampton.

I am a CBT Lecturer, an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and Chartered Clinical Psychologist. I trained and qualified as a Clinical Psychologist later in life and then worked in secondary care psychological therapy services in Wiltshire. This involved both inpatient and crisis team work, as well as provision of psychological therapy for people with a range of complex mental health problems. I took the Diploma in CBT for Serious Mental Health Problems at Southampton, and I am accredited with BABCP. In addition, I am a trained DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) therapist, and led a DBT service in South Wiltshire for people with borderline personality disorder type difficulties. I have always enjoyed continued academic links, and in June 2009 I took a part-time CBT Lecturer post at Southampton University to contribute towards their CBT programmes, and help deliver the new Diploma in Cognitive Therapy for Anxiety and Depression (IAPT). This obviously involves teaching and supervising other people to deliver high quality, evidence-based CBT therapy. Part-time provision of private therapy brings an ideal balance to my work life.
