Dr Tim Cooke
Academic and Professional Tutor
Dr Tim Cooke is Academic and Professional Tutor within Psychology at the University of Southampton.
I am an HCPC registered, practising educational psychologist, employed by Southampton Psychology Service, from which I am seconded to work three days a week as an Academic and Professional Tutor on the Doctoral Programme in Educational Psychology. Before that, I worked for Hampshire Educational Psychology Service for 13 years, holding a variety of positions, centred around my interest in emotional and behavioural development. I then worked for four years for Maybo, a training and consultancy firm specialising in conflict management. In 2011, I took up my post at Southampton Psychology Service.
I have interests in the application of positive psychology to help adults and children achieve their potential; in the impact of belonging on social, emotional and academic development; in the application of the social information processing model to inform supportive interventions; in the application of the cybernetic model of self-control; in exploring the impact of a sense of belonging on student outcomes, and in particular in the use of mental contrasting and implementation intentions to improve social, emotional and academic outcomes.
