Family and friends from all over the world packed summer Graduation ceremonies at the University of Southampton to honour the achievements of the class of 2019 in Psychology.

They cheered and applauded as the graduates and postgraduates went on stage at the Nuffield Theatre or Turner Sims Concert Hall in front of the academics who had taught them. All received certificates or prizes to recognise years of hard work.

BSc Psychology graduate Alexandra Voica (pictured) says: “At school, I took Psychology as an optional choice. I was intrigued by the subject and stuck with it – and now here I am with a degree in Psychology! I loved writing my dissertation and I’m staying in research to do a Masters in behavioural change at University College London.”

Fellow BSc Psychology graduate Oscar Marshall adds: “I’ve learned lots about myself as well as about my subject. I was quite shy at school but I’ve had the opportunity to meet some great people here and know I’ll stay in touch with them forever. Now I’ve graduated, I want to do a Masters in sports psychology, and get a job working with athletes and other sports people.”

For many of the graduates, this was their last opportunity to get together with all their classmates before heading out into the world to embark on their careers.

Dean of Environmental and Life Sciences, Professor Rachel Mills says: “Graduation is one of my favourite events at the University of Southampton. We get to celebrate all the hard work and achievements of our newest graduates with their families and friends and to wish them every success throughout their lives.”
