Behavioral Economics as an Approach for Promoting Adherence to Health Care Interventions
Behavioral economics (BE) is an interdisciplinary field that combines insights from psychology, marketing, and economics to promote optimal individual decision-making. Recently BE has been applied to a diverse range of health topics, including smoking cessation and obesity prevention. The focus of Dr. Stevens’ talk will be on the potential application of BE principles to promoting maternal and child health from both patient and clinician perspectives. He will highlight choice architecture, utilization of social norms, and implementation of innovative incentive systems as three BE strategies.
