I chose the University of Southampton because of its world-class reputation and the campus layout.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

I chose Southampton University because of its world-class reputation and campus layout. In terms of Southampton as a city, it’s the perfect size – not massive and overwhelming but also not too small and dull. I also love living by the coast!

What is it like studying here?

I especially love the fact that Southampton is a campus university. The grounds are stunning in all seasons and I love the friendly atmosphere that the campus brings. There is always something going on somewhere on campus, which really gives the university a sense of community.

What are you enjoying most about your course?

I enjoy the personal touch that my course provides, with many opportunities for feedback to improve our learning. The lecturers are inspiring and always go above and beyond to make the subject interesting and easy to understand.

Do you have the opportunity to study modules outside of your core subject area?

Yes, I am currently taking an inter-disciplinary module called Living and Working on the Web. This module is a great example of innovative learning as we have had the opportunity to manage our own blogs as well as share resources through Twitter.

How do you rate study facilities at the University?

The study facilities are fantastic. The Hartley Library has all the resources I ever need and lots of friendly staff to help out if I’m looking for something in particular. The campus has numerous quiet spaces which can be used for studying, as well as social spots to catch up with friends.

What have been your Southampton ‘highlights’ so far?

A major highlight for me was being elected as Secretary for the Tap Dance Society at Union Southampton. I loved being a part of the committee and having the opportunity to get involved in dance classes, workshops and shows. I enjoyed broadening my personal network and interacting with students from all different courses.

Halls was a fantastic experience and the student ambassadors and staff did a great job of making us feel comfortable and welcome. The Freshers activities were a great way to meet new people, some of which I have remained friends throughout my university experience.

How has your time at Southampton helped you to grow as a person?

Studying at Southampton has helped me to build my confidence and grow as a person. Not only have I expanded my knowledge of my degree subject, but I have also had numerous opportunities to build on my experiences and learn new skills.
