Our Mission

We will enhance the sub-national, national and international public policy impact of research conducted by University of Southampton staff and students to address major societal challenges and advocate for resources for our research.

Rationale

• evidence-informed policy delivers better outcomes for communities
• policymakers welcome timely and intelligible evidence from publicly funded HEIs
• world-leading academic staff and doctoral students require a highly connected and proactive professional policy engagement service

Our Vision

We will:

• provide sub-national, national and overseas policymakers with efficient routes for engaging with research at the University of Southampton
• create partnerships between our researchers and policymakers to promote research impact through informing policy
• equip researchers with the skills needed to engage with policymakers
• foster and celebrate a culture of policy engagement within the University
• use our network of policy contacts to create opportunities for  researchers to engage with policymakers
• support recognition of the University as a national and international leader in using academic research to inform public policy
