This Forum enables participants to update and develop a deeper understanding of the forthcoming Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) and its structure and implications. Furthermore, it will allow for a profound appreciation of its impact on compliance and implementation. Attendees will be encouraged to explore how the TEF is designed to deliver excellence across Higher Education and, through both policy updates and best practice case studies, will analyse how to effectively increase the quality of Higher Education teaching to improve results.

Speaker information

Chris Millward,Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE),Serves as the Director of Policy, working with David Sweeney and the heads of each of the policy areas. In doing so, he is responsible for harnessing HEFCE’s expertise on research, education and knowledge exchange to inform its funding to universities and colleges, and its advice to Government. Chris particularly leads on education and skills, including postgraduate policy and funding.

Philip Lomas,Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS),Is the Head of the TEF Stakeholder Engagement Team.

Dr Phil Richards,Jisc,Is the Chief Innovation Officer, leads and continuously develops a world class futures team: a group of experts with the capacity to identify, shape and exploit opportunities for new, digitally enabled, ways of working. As with all of Jisc, the focus of his activity is creating the greatest benefit for the sectors they serve.

Geoff Stoakes,Higher Education Academy (HEA),Is the Head of Special Projects and has overseen the publication of a wide range of research publications, including Implications of ‘Dimensions of quality’ in a market environment by Graham Gibbs (HEA, 2012). He has expertise in HE policy, the management of research, and learning and teaching.

Bethan Dudas,National Union of Students (NUS),Is the Policy Engagement Manager, managing a stakeholder facing policy team, delivering a student-led agenda on higher education, immigration, housing & wellbeing.
