Event details
The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Southampton is holding a policy commission to give stakeholders in palliative and end-of-life care an opportunity to reflect upon approaches to community-based volunteer-led support for people with end-of life care needs and their caregivers. Key challenges and debates will be highlighted in presentations by local community leaders, researchers, and policy-makers in end-of-life care. These will drive collaborative reflections on related policy issues, in facilitated sessions and round-table discussions. The aim of ‘Together at the end of life’ is to describe existing community development efforts, and debate the role of volunteers in developing community capacity. We will also consider whether established ways in which volunteer roles are being conceptualised have implications for the implementation of Strand 6 of the ‘Ambitions for Palliative and End of Life Care’ framework that prescribes ‘community preparedness to care’.
