Introducing Policy|MAPPA

What is Policy MAPPA?

Nobody likes a bottle neck. With this in mind, over the last 12 months PPS has been working on a tech solution to a bottle neck we have been aware of for some time: PPS itself.

We are aware that there is an abundance of relationships between UoS researchers and policy actors in Government that we have no visibility of. Rather than only coming to us for people we know, your colleagues may also have a variety of connections and networks you can use! PPS will still be here to help build new connections and support your policy projects, however.

Who do you ask and how?

Powered by the PURE data base, Policy|MAPPA (Multipoint Access to Public Policy Actors) allows you to search for policy actors in Government departments or agencies that have engaged with University of Southampton researchers (which have been recorded in PURE for REF purposes) since 2014. Using the Policy|MAPPA website, simply add note outlining why you want to engage with that policy actor to the UoS researcher who is the ‘relationship owner’.  Should the relationship owner agree that your request is well placed to that policy actor’s expertise, Policy| MAPPA will offer a customisable template email that will make it easy for you to be introduced to the policy actor by the relationship owner. If the relationship owner thinks that is not a good fit you will receive a notification and your request will be sent to the next relationship owner.

The PPS team have been working with the test version during September and we are now looking for volunteers from Policy|Membership to test the beta version to tell us how the website can be improved. If you are interested in taking part in testing during October please let us know via publicpolicy@soton.ac.uk
