Specialist Policy Officers

Specialist Policy Officers (SPOs) play a vital role in bridging the gap between academic research and policymaking. They work across various institutes and disciplines, ensuring that cutting-edge research influences real-world decision-making at local, national, and international levels. By translating complex research into accessible insights, they help shape policies that address pressing societal challenges, from sustainability and artificial intelligence to maritime law and cultural policy.

SPOs collaborate with researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders, fostering partnerships that drive impactful change. Their work includes providing evidence for government consultations, developing policy strategies, and supporting initiatives that enhance the reach and relevance of academic research. Whether engaging with Westminster, regulatory bodies, or local authorities, SPOs act as knowledge brokers, ensuring that research informs and shapes policies for a more resilient and forward-thinking society.
