Nadiya Catel-Arutyunova

Nadiya works at the intersection of research and policy, supporting the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute's mission to expand knowledge of the oceans and address marine and maritime most pressing challenges.

In her role, she helps bridging the gap between academia and policy, connecting researchers from across the University of Southampton with policymakers and industry leaders on local, national, and global levels.

Nadiya worked at the British Retail Consortium as a Sustainability Policy Adviser, leading on the circular economy and the resources and waste policy work on behalf of the UK retail industry. Prior to that, she was a Public Affairs and Policy Officer at Veolia in London and Brussels and supported HM Government of Gibraltar Representation to the EU in Brussels. Nadiya started her career with internships at POLITICO EU and the European Parliament.

Nadiya’s academic profile blends EU and International Law with International Relations and Diplomacy, and more recently a professional certification in Sustainable Business Management from Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL).

Most likely to say: ‘Oh that’s interesting…’

Biggest fan of: Cats, vintage tea cups, litter-picking, and general recycling-related stuff
