The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) are currently offering Parliamentary Academic Fellowships under a directed call with a deadline for applications of Sunday 13 March 2022

POST, is a bicameral body within the UK Parliament. With more than 30 years of experience in sourcing reliable and up-to-date research evidence for the UK Parliament, POST is one of the first bodies of its kind in the world.

POST Parlimentary Academic Fellowship

The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) are currently offering up to 13 opportunities for Parliamentary Academic Fellowships (a scheme which is designed to enable UK academics to be embedded in Parliament with the aim of generating research impact). Dr Jane Parry (Lecturer and Director of Research for HRM and Organisational Behaviour within Southampton Business School) has previously held a POST fellowship; further details of this can be found here.

The University of Southampton’s ESRC Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) secondment funding scheme may be able to provide support for these fellowships; therefore, the impact funding team will need to be made aware of your intention to apply at the earliest opportunity. You will also need to inform your Faculty Finance team as they will be required to provide a financial breakdown and approval.

Please see below our internal application requirements and deadlines including the ones that have been specified by POST. If you wish to ensure that your application is considered for IAA funding, the IAA team must be informed in advance of the submission in order to provide approval in principle.

Monday 21 February 2022: Expressions of Interest with full details of your proposed submission (Head of Department sign off and approval can follow) and financial breakdown for buy-out of the secondee’s time, travel, and subsistence submitted via the form above, with written samples to impact@soton.ac.uk

Friday 4 March 2022: IAA Chair approval in principle decisions notified

Sunday 13 March 2022: POST deadline for applicant to submit proposals online to POST (copy of final submission to be sent to Impact@soton.ac.uk)

POST - Requirements and Timeline

Friday 8 April 2022: Candidates notified of outcomes of applications, and candidates successful at this stage invited to interview*

Monday 11 – Friday 22 April 2022: Proposed dates for interviews – please bear in mind that this is the Easter fortnight and covers the University closure period

End April 2022: Interview outcomes communicated and Fellowships offered to successful candidates

From June 2022 (earliest possible start date): Fellowships commence

*Mock interviews will be offered where possible prior to an interview with POST.

^ Please bear in mind that security and other documentation (e.g., a secondment agreement which will need to be reviewed, agreed, and fully signed prior to commencement of the secondment, and possibly ethics approval if you are proposing to conduct research which requires this type of approval) may require more than 1 month to be completed and in place in advance of your proposed commencement date.

Please note: in terms of the POST online application form this will automatically times out if you are inactive for more than 45 minutes – this will result in any unsaved information being lost.
