PPS Training Session: Working with Local Government

Learning objectives:

Course overview

A two-hour session, including lots of time for questions and answers. We’ll cover which bits of local government do what, who makes the decisions, and how (in theory and practice) and look forward to how a new local government region might look.

Speakers Bios

Mike Harris

Mike is working with the University to refine and deliver the Civic University Strategic Plan. He has had a long career in Local Government, with a variety of senior roles, including Chief Executive of Southampton City Council. He’s experienced first-hand, political changes at local and national levels, and been in the midst of previous devolution dialogue, whilst seeking to ensure sound policy and strategy are developed to positively impact residents.

Grace Compton 

Grace is the Specialist Policy Officer for the Sustainability and Resilience Institute at the University of Southampton, working to enhance the impact of their interdisciplinary research. She collaborates with policymakers to provide the evidence needed to make informed, evidence-led decisions on sustainability policies. She has first-hand experience in the design and delivery of Climate Response and Energy Transition policies, working with central government and civil servants.
