Diversity and Inclusion in Assessment

The Examination Policy for Disabled and Dyslexic Students makes provision for students with dyslexia to have their examinations scripts flagged to ensure that they are not penalised for typical dyslexic spelling and syntax errors when working to short (7 hours or less) deadlines under examination conditions. The University considers that reasonable adjustments for assessed coursework should largely take place before coursework is handed in rather than during the process of marking.

The Office for Students asserts that:

"There is no inconsistency in a provider complying with equality legislation and making its assessments accessible, while also maintaining rigour in spelling, punctuation and grammar. Providers should ensure that students benefit from both accessibility and rigour."
