Recruitment and Admissions Subcommittee

Terms of Reference

The Recruitment and Admissions Subcommittee (RASC) of the Academic Quality and Standards Committee (AQSC) will oversee, on its behalf, the development and implementation of the University’s policies and procedures in the areas of recruitment and admission of students. This includes the recruitment and admission of both UK and international students, to both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The RASC will advise and make recommendations to AQSC in the following areas:

  1. Overseeing the development and implementation of the University's policies and procedures for the recruitment and admission of students including the strategic oversight of Confirmation and Clearing.
  2. Assessing the impact of external trends and internal developments on student recruitment (including widening participation) and admissions.
  3. Advising the University Academic Executive (UAE), through the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), of potential policy changes or adjustments, and consideration of external factors.
  4. Reviewing the use of market research and management information in relation to recruitment and marketing activities.
  5. Reviewing and maintaining oversight of policy issues (e.g. the use of contextual admissions), and ensuring that the University’s admissions policies and procedures are implemented consistently for all programmes.
  6. Considering the strategic and cross-faculty implications of proposals from faculties to amend their entry requirements.
  7. Considering recommendations for the acceptance of new or revised qualifications or English language tests, their equivalency with already accepted qualifications, and any changes to those equivalencies.
  8. Promoting good practice in delivery of Open / Visit Days.
  9. Reviewing ‘lessons learned’ (e.g. in October each year regarding the previous cycle).
  10. Maintaining oversight of Outreach activity including the Access Agreement.
  11. Establishing task and finish groups as necessary to work on particular issues (these may be segmented across Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught and Postgraduate Research, and/or Home/EU/International).
