Study Abroad

Schools are encouraged to explore opportunities for students to spend a period of study at a partner institution outside of the UK as an intrinsic part of their academic programme.

There are generally two types of such opportunities: student exchanges and study abroad arrangements. A ‘student exchange’ as an activity which involves both outgoing and incoming students from a partner institution. Both cohorts may study under similar but not necessarily identical arrangements.

A ‘study abroad’ activity is defined as one which involves only outgoing or incoming students. Either opportunity must be a recognised part of a University of Southampton programme. The period abroad could either be in place of study otherwise undertaken at Southampton or an additional study period which is an option detailed in the programme specification.
