Higher Doctorates

The University’s requirements for all research degrees are set out in the Regulations for Research Degrees and Higher Doctorates and the Code of Practice for Research Degree Candidature and Supervision. The Code of Practice is complementary to the Regulations,  detailing the University’s expectations for appropriate standards and supportive conditions to enable every research student to have the best possible experience whilst undertaking their studies.

A higher degree doctorate may be awarded to an individual who has distinguished themselves by their contribution to research, learning or, in the case of the Doctor of Music, to musical composition.  A two-stage process exists for the consideration of an application for the award of a higher doctorate.  The Submission for a Higher Doctorate Guidance should be read in conjunction with the Regulations for the degrees of Doctor of Letters, Music, Science, Science in the Social Sciences and Laws.  Templates to support the process are available on the Doctoral College Staff Sharepoint site.
