The 2017 REACH retreat took place on Thursday 29th June at the National Oceanography Centre, attended by 38 REACH members.

In the morning we received a guided tour of the facilities, including a briefing in the aquarium on current coral research, and a chance to get up close to the famous underwater vehicle Boaty McBoatface!

Our morning session finished with a talk – by guest speakers Professor Jörg Wiedenmann and Dr Cecilia D'Angelo – outlining how coral reef organisms can provide potentially lifesaving pharmaceutical tools, yet are dangerously threatened by climate change and human activity.

In the afternoon we split into three teams for a (surprisingly competitive…) set of team building activities, including archery, blindfolded boatbuilding, and the egg drop challenge!

It was a fantastic day and a big thank you goes to Tammy Thomas for all her hard work in organising the day.
