About the Wind tunnel: 90cm by 60cm by 4.5m

This is the smallest of our wind tunnels and is an open circuit facility. It has a 3D computer controlled probe traversing system and dynamometer. It is housed in a laboratory and used for a variety of aerodynamics research and student project work.

This tunnel can be used to calibrate instrumentation. The laboratory has laser safety arrangements so that the particle image velocimetry system can be used for flow visualisation studies.

Consultancy and commercial hire

We offer expert advice through our consultancy services which include:

  • technical support
  • design and drawing
  • results analysis and interpretation

Our support workshops offer metalworking, model making and jig manufacture facilities.

You can also hire the tunnel to carry out your own testing, with our expertise on hand should you need it.

Technical specification

Working section 

  • The working section dimensions are 90cm wide by 60cm high by 4.5m long.
  • The tunnel has a maximum wind speed of 30 metres per second.


  • Balances include a 6 component strain gauged balance in the tunnel floor on a controllable turntable.
  • 2D traverse gear for moving instrumentation across the working section.
