Impact Acceleration Accounts

We are proud to be working with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) on a number of Research Council Impact Acceleration Accounts (IAAs).

Economic & Social Research Council (ESRC)

The University of Southampton was awarded a four-year ESRC IAA to support a diverse range of knowledge exchange and engagement activities until early 2023.

The overall aim of the ESRC IAA is to maximise the practical application of Southampton’s social science research outputs. The funding will be used to support the University with its continued contribution to society and the economy at a regional, national and international level, addressing the Grand Challenges of the Industrial Strategy, Global Challenges, ESRC and UKRI research priorities, in the following key ways:

Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)

The University of Southampton has an EPSRC IAA award to support a diverse range of knowledge exchange and engagement activities until March 2022.

The EPSRC IAA will be used to support the University in maximising the impact of EPSRC funded research through greater engagement with potential users, industry, policy makers and the public. The key aim for the EPSRC IAA is to align to the future aims articulated by the EPSRC, namely: promoting movement of people, supporting very early stage commercialisation, engaging with business, government and third sector, culture change. Against this landscape, the specific aims are to:

Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC)

The University of Southampton has received STFC IAA awards on an annual basis (for a 12-month period) and currently has an award to support the University in maximising the impact of STFC funded research through commercialisation and knowledge exchange activities, leading to the development of collaborations with industry and policy makers until February 2021.  The key aims of the award is to:
