Mr Thom Bostock

Thom has over ten years of experience in commercial testing and consultancy. Specialising in bespoke testing, manufacture and development of custom test rigs and machines; particularly for thermal and mechanical testing.

Since joining RIfI in 2008 Thom has completed over 100 consultancy projects characterising a diverse range of materials including; cellular solids, composites, polymers, metals and engineered woods.

Thom has measured thermal properties for many clients including insulation materials for the oil and gas industry, metallic materials for healthcare applications, and polymeric materials for the marine industry.

Thom is an expert in mechanical measurements at low temperatures. Previous work including testing metallic and polymer tapes under liquid helium, cellular solids under liquid nitrogen, and a vast range of materials in cold gas environments.

Composite Cabins (current)

Technical and testing expertise of lightweight foams provided to the consortium.

Literature review of materials, containment systems and components required for storage of liquid hydrogen.

Conducting literature studies to review the state-of-art of hydrogen technology, to provide recommendations for the design of a liquid hydrogen containment system.
