The RUTI trial

The RUTI Trial

This trial is being organised by a team based in the Complementary and Integrated Medicine Research Unit, which is based within the Faculty of Medicine, Primary Care and Population Sciences academic unit, at the University of Southampton.

From fields to pharmacy

Our aim is to subject Complementary medicines to rigorous scrutiny to establish if these interventions are effective and safe, and whether they can be more widely incorporated into the National Health Service.

We conduct clinical trials using quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, surveys, systematic reviews, and work with other academic institutions to explore the biological mechanisms that may underpin these therapies.

We have conducted clinical trials exploring the role of Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome and are currently engaged in a large trial investigating the herbs bearberry (uva ursi) for acute urinary tract infections.
