An Interview with Professor Chris Skinner in the International Statistical Review

Interview with Prof Chris Skinner

An interview with Professor Chris Skinner has just appeared in the International Statistical Review. Chris joined the University of Southampton in 1978, and was soon involved in the Analysis of Complex Surveys project led by Tim Holt and Fred Smith, a topic in which he obtained his PhD.

Chris continued work in this area, and a conference in 1986 was the basis for a book, Analysis of Complex Survey Data. He became Professor of Statistics in 1994, and served as head of the Dept of Social Statistics & Demography and head of S3RI. He was instrumental in setting up the MSc in Official Statistics in collaboration with the Office for National Statistics, and oversaw the construction of Building 39 at Highfield.

In 2011 Chris moved to the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE). As well as documenting Chris’s career in statistics, the interview article contains some history and reminiscences from his time in Southampton and pictures of some colleagues. The interview took place at LSE earlier in 2019, and David Haziza (Université de Montréal) and Paul Smith (from Social Statistics & Demography) were the interviewers.

Full interview can be found here.
