One classical problem is the comparison of several normal means. Since the pioneering work of Tukey (1953), Scheffe (1953) and Dunnett (1955), the area of simultaneous inference and multiple comparison has generated huge research interests and found important applications across the spectrum of sciences. The work of Benjamini and Hochberg (1995) on false discovery control has become one of the most cited statistical papers ever. The 8th International Conference on Multiple Comparison Procedures was held in Southampton during 8-11 July 2013, which provided a forum for interactions among researchers and users from industry, regulatory authorities and academia.
