Are your thoughts only yours?

What is this talk/activity about?

One of the extraordinary abilities of human beings, an ability that we rightly consider crucial and essential, is to form thoughts about reality: for example, we perceive things around us and start having beliefs about them. But what are beliefs and thoughts? Can we ever share our thoughts or rather your thoughts are too intimate a matter for you to be able to genuinely share them with others? Can you and your friends think exactly the same thing, or rather you will have your unsharable ideas of reality and your friends will have theirs? Can we ever genuinely communicate our thoughts or language will never be able to transfer your thoughts from your own mind to the mind of others? In this talk, we will investigate the relationship between three fundamental kinds of entities: the reality around us, our thoughts about it and the language we might try to use to communicate such thoughts.
