SHTAC welcomes visitors

SHTAC welcomes representatives of the Research Center for Clinical and Economic Evaluation and Pharmacoeconomics (RC CEE&Ph) at the Russian State Medical University in Moscow.

Representatives from the Research Center for Clinical and Economic Evaluation and Pharmacoeconomics (RC CEE&Ph) at the Russian State Medical University in Moscow visited SHTAC on 1st June 2011. The group, represented by Professor Vitaly Omelyanovsky (Director), Dr Maria Avxentyeva (Executive Director) and Dr Lyudmila Maksimova (Head of External Relations), are establishing a centre for health technology assessment (HTA) in Russia and were keen to learn from SHTAC's experience and expertise.

Having supported national health technology appraisal programmes in England and Wales for over 10 years, and regional programmes before that, SHTAC were able to outline the processes and methodology used to provide reliable and rigorous evidence to underpin guidance and policy. The groups discussed the challenges in developing research organisations, the key aspects of delivering high quality research, developments in HTA methodology and the opportunities for sharing knowledge and expertise in the future.

Professor Andrew Clegg (Director of SHTAC) said ‘SHTAC have enjoyed meeting the team from RC CEE&Ph and hearing about the challenges that they face. We hope that sharing the knowledge and experience we have gained in producing HTAs and in supporting the development of policy to the NHS has helped.'
