Hello there. My name is Hisham Ghabra, and I am the Year 2 Representative for this year.

As a graduate with an interest in medical education, research and academia down the line, joining SIAS was a logical, and worthwhile, step to reaching that goal. While this is my first year in the committee, I have attended many of the talks and events hosted by SIAS last year, and I knew that this was a society suited for my needs.

SIAS is a talented society that aims to promote, encourage and guide medical students into academic medicine. As a Year 2 Representative, my role is to

- Promote SIAS and its events to my year group

- Act as a medium between my year group and the committee to voice the year group’s ideas and opinions

- Support and help the committee in planning and organizing events

As it stands, I hope to be involved in teaching at university level alongside my training and practice. SIAS is a platform on which I can further explore this career pathway by giving myself and others the opportunity to meet academic doctors, attend national conferences and find resources to explore the possibilities of academia and research in medicine.
