Top 3 Wardrobe Items

.

There are some key things that every student needs at university, from kitchen equipment to the right stationery for your course. However, for Southampton students, there are some specific things they should get for their university experience.

1. Jesters shoes

One of the highlights of the Southampton student nightclub circuit is Jesters, which is unique to Southampton. They serve a variety of drinks including their famous cocktails, which inevitably get spilt on the floor, which you then stick to. This is one very good reason why you shouldn’t wear your finest new shoes to Jesters. Instead, I’d recommend wearing a cheap, old pair of shoes that you don’t mind getting messy and designate these to Jesters use only. Another good reason to have this sort of shoe is because the venue is both indoor and outdoor, so if it has been raining or is raining (both are extremely likely in Southampton), then your feet are protected. So, if you're a Southampton student who likes to go out to nightclubs, Jesters is a must, but equally, so are the Jesters shoes.

2. Uni or Society Jumper

Another key item found in any student’s wardrobe, after a few weeks in, is a university or society jumper. At the University of Southampton, there is the Shop on Top, where you can buy all sorts of university branded items from sportswear and teddy bears, to bags and of course, jumpers. This is a place you should definitely visit, at least before Christmas, so when you head home for the holidays, you can show your family and friends that you’re a fully-fledged uni student!

Clubs and Societies at Southampton also sell their own clothing items with their club logo on instead of the uni. Usually, these are advertised to members and have to be ordered through the club, rather than you being able to see it in a shop. So, when you find a club or society for you, which you will (there’s over 300 here!), maybe you could buy a jumper from them instead, or as well?

3. Go-to social outfit

Sometimes, on the spur of a moment, you’ll decide to go out with your flatmates, course mates or society friends and you’ll want to change out of your daytime clothes/pyjamas. This is where having a go-to social outfit comes in handy. For all situations, you can’t go wrong with jeans and a nice top. Whether you’re going out for dinner, to the cinema or to a club or pub, jeans and a nice top is a great outfit option. It’s comfy and looks good!

Those are some recommendations for Southampton students during their time here.

Of course, you do you though! Be happy and comfortable in whatever you wear!
