The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) is the higher education programme of the Clinton Foundation that connects students across the world who aspires to take action to address pressing global challenges of the 21st century. Every year, students apply with their own commitments to action, with approximately 600 students from across the world selected to participate in the year-round programme.
The programme helps develop the next generation of leaders and social entrepreneurs by giving students access to training and mentorship opportunities, a wide range of international experts and changemakers, and in-person & virtual networking opportunities. There’s no cost to participate, but to be part of this programme, students must commit to addressing a pressing local or global challenge. This commitment — a “Commitment to Action” — takes the form of a new, specific, and measurable project that each student develops either as an individual or with their peers. Students will then receive access to alumni mentors, participate in a social impact curriculum, and receive an invitation to the virtual annual meeting hosted by President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton.

At the Social Impact Lab, we will support students throughout the CGI U application process to give them the best opportunity to be selected to participate in CGI U.
When applications open, the Social Impact Lab will be running workshops and drop-in sessions for students to join. In these sessions we will review and build competitive applications that address important issues and meet the criteria sought by the CGI U Selection Committee.
Successful applicants who get accepted onto the CGI U programme and invited to the annual meeting will have the opportunity to apply for full funding to attend this event. An application form will be distributed to successful applicants to fill out, within this application there will a few questions on students commitment to action to determine which students receive the funding.
As the CGI U programme progresses, we'll offer the chance to apply for Seed funding. This funding can help students take their social initiatives to the next level and turn their ideas into real-world projects with a positive impact.
We will help you through the application process to give University of Southampton students the best opportunity to be selected to participate in CGI U. We will meet with you to discuss and build a competitive application that addresses Development, meet the criteria of what the CGI U Selection Committee is looking for in student applications.
