World's Challenge Challenge

About WCC

Hosted by Western University in London, Canada, the World’s Challenge Challenge competition encourages young minds from different backgrounds worldwide to seek to study and influence international communities.

It addresses problems such as poverty, health, food security, inequality and sustainability and challenges students to find solutions to tackle these global problems. This experience allows you to develop many entrepreneurial skills, boost your public speaking confidence and most importantly, put your ideas into action.

How it works

For this year’s virtual competition, teams will be asked to submit a video pitch. It should be 2-3 minutes long, which includes an overview pitch of your chosen issue that will be presented to a selection of semi-final judges in Southampton. The best ideas will be rewarded with £100 and £50 money prizes to support their ideas.

If your team makes it to the final, you'll then be asked to submit a 5-7 minute video pitch which will be more in-depth and presented to the finals judges. Don't worry just yet, the SiL team will support your presentation! Teams in the finals will also participate in a live Q&A session with judges via Zoom (or similar).

Videos should be a recording of team members pitching using Zoom or similar. Teams should still use a PowerPoint presentation, follow the same guidelines and all members should participate and speak during the presentation.

The top team will be sent to the Global Finals Online in June 2022 for the chance to win $30,000 to help develop their solution and support implementation further.

If you have an idea on how to address a chosen issue, fill in the application form below and send your video to socimplab@soton.ac.uk
