Matt Norman 2nd Year Environmental Science

Matt took part in the first Social Innovation Challenge, a one day social impact competition looking at improving student life and sustainbility on campus:

"The majority of students that I’ve spoken to at Southampton have an idea - a way in which they want to change/improve university for current and prospective students - and the Social Innovation Challenge was a great way of bringing these ideas into focus. I also really wanted to drive forward a plan for making the University’s vehicles more carbon friendly.

I gained experience in dealing with time-pressured situations and providing on-the-spot answers to difficult questions.

The Social Innovation Challenge made me feel more included within the University – I felt that the challenge brought together people of a similar mind-set, and as a corollary, it showed me that other students care about the condition and reputation of the university."
