On Monday 9 November 2020, Southampton Business School kicked off its 72-hour Social Impact Challenge 2020, with international partner, educational charity Pratham.

Offer holders due to start at Southampton in January 2021 have been challenged to create a well-researched and thought-provoking infographic to raise awareness and influence behaviour on an important social, environmental or political cause of their choice. Participants will need to work individually and quickly to complete the piece over just three days. The project gives offer holders an opportunity to be welcomed into the Southampton Business School community, as well as develop important research, creativity, time management, and communication skills ahead of starting their degrees at Southampton.

Participants received their project brief in a live webinar on 9th November, hosted by the Business School’s Dr Rob Angell (Associate Professor in Marketing Research) and Dr Philip Alford (Lecturer Digital Marketing).

They are due to submit their final work on 12 November, when the entries will be shortlisted and then reviewed by a panel of expert judges:

  • Mr Amarjit Singh, CEO of IBG (India Business Group), leading business advisory consultancy
  • Dr Dorrie Chao, Senior Teaching Fellow in Innovation and Entrepreneurship
  • Mr Dhruv Nanavati, Southampton Business School Graduate, Solution Specialist at Acoustic (IBM)
  • Dr Rob Angell, Associate Professor in Marketing Research
  • Dr Philip Alford, Lecturer Digital Marketing
  • Dr Pathik Pathak, Founding Director, Social Impact Lab

The winner will receive a 20 minute career consultation with CEO Amarjit Singh, plus £200 of Amazon vouchers, with two runners up receiving £50 of Amazon vouchers each, and Certificates of Commendation for the best additional runners up.

Speaking about the event, Dr Rob Angell, who is also the Director of Internationalisation at Southampton Business School, said, “this is a fantastic opportunity for our all our incoming students to become part of our business school community before they start their programme, while also making a positive impact in the world.  We’re excited to see the work they will produce, and to see them start their journey to success at Southampton with such an exciting project.”
