Entry requirements

This information is for general guidance only; entry requirements vary for different courses. For more specific details, please visit the relevant course web page or contact the admissions office for your chosen subject area.

Foundation year entry requirements 

International Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate degree in management, humanities, arts and social sciences) West African Examination Certificate, achieving at least five subjects with an average of C6 or above 
Engineering Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in engineering, physics, computer science and geophysics) West African Examination Certificate, achieving at least five subjects with a B or B3 average overall, including a minimum score of B2 in both maths and physics
Science Foundation Year (progressing to undergraduate courses in biology, chemistry and other science-related courses) West African Examination Certificate, achieving at least five subjects with a B or B3 average overall, including a minimum score of B2 in both maths and a science subject

Please note that this course does not progress to an undergraduate degree in medicine.

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, you will need:

High grades in UK A levels 
Between 28 and 38 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB) 
A recognised foundation year programme
Successful completion of first year of a recognised Ghanaian university honours degree

 Postgraduate entry requirements

Masters programmes

Bachelors degree awarded by a recognised Ghanaian University or an equivalent professional qualification approved by the University

UK 1st degree equivalent: 70% or 3.75 out of 4; GPA 4.5 out of 5

UK 2:1 degree equivalent: 60% or GPA 3.25 out of 4; GPA 3.5 out of 5

PhD programmes

Good grades in bachelors and masters degrees awarded by a recognised university, and a strong research proposal

English language entry requirements

You will need to be able to demonstrate the required level of English language proficiency. We require a letter from the student's previous institution to confirm they teach in English combined with the student having achieved at least West African Examination Council (WAEC), West African Secondary School Certificate with English Grade C6 or above.

Student-run clubs and societies

Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by the University's Students' Union (SUSU) for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups.
