Entry requirements

This information is for general guidance only; entry requirements vary for different courses. For more specific details, please visit the relevant course web page or contact the admissions office for your chosen subject area.

Foundation year entry requirements

If you do not have the traditional entry requirements for our undergraduate courses, you may be able to qualify by doing one of our foundation programmes first. To find out more, visit our foundation years page or contact the International Office team.

Undergraduate entry requirements

To be considered for a place on one of our undergraduate (bachelors) degrees, you will need:

Cambridge International A levels taken in Brunei 
A levels taken in the UK 
Between 28 and 38 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB) 
Recognised foundation course taken in the UK, Australia or Canada 
Students with the Higher National Diploma will be considered for first or second year entry to the University's undergraduate (bachelors) degree programmes

 Postgraduate entry requirements

Masters programmes

Bachelors degree awarded by a recognised institution with a minimum GPA of 3.2 out of 5.0 

UK 1st equivalent: GPA 3.8
UK 2:1 equivalent: GPA 3.2

PhD programmes

Good grades in bachelors and masters degrees awarded by a recognised university, and a strong research proposal

English language entry requirements

You will need to be able to demonstrate the required level of English language proficiency. Students from Brunei who have achieved Cambridge O Level – English grade C+ may be exempted from additional English language requirements.

Student-run clubs and societies

Getting involved in clubs and societies is a great way to meet other students from your country and from around the world. There are many societies run by the University's Students' Union (SUSU) for different interests, religions, sports and academic groups. University of Southampton is one of the top Universities in Research and Teaching. In addition to that, this University offers a wide range of courses. What attracted me most was Maths with Actuarial Science, a course combining all aspects of Maths, Statistics, Economics and Finance into one package.
