Information for students from Oceania

The University of Southampton has links with universities in Australia and New Zealand.

The tertiary education systems in Australia and New Zealand are more similar to United Kingdom system than any other part of the world. They possess the same elements and produce broadly similar outputs in leaning and research however the United Kingdom has a much stronger environment to help translate research ideas into action, with our much larger economy and regional position close to Europe and North America, as well as our relatively low cost of living compared to Australia and New Zealand.

The University of Southampton has welcomed nearly 60 students from Australia and New Zealand over the last five years to study here, a number we are very keen to grow (in the past we have also welcomed students from Tonga and New Caledonia).

We have also been delighted to welcome just under 30 students on exchange from our partners in Australia and New Zealand over the past three years.

We have a significant number of academic and professional staff from Australia and New Zealand highlighting our shared history and cultural links and maintain close relationships with many major universities in the region.
