On 13th September we ran our first training event for professionals on how to run a music workshop for adults with cochlear implants.

All 22 places were booked and professionals attended from the UK, Europe and China.

The day started with presentations by Rachel van Besouw and Mary Grasmeder on 'Music through a cochlear implant' and 'Hearing loss, performance with a cochlear implant and music' (you can download the slides from the Music Info part of the Music Focus Group website), as well as talks by expert CI users, Edna and Samantha. You can read a transcript of Edna's talk here!

Sarah Hodkinson also introduced our 'Good Practice Guide' on running music workshops. To request a hard copy, email Sarah: sarah.hodkinson@soton.ac.uk

After lunch Ben Oliver introduced sample drumming/percussion exercises using 'rhythm-speak' based on his favourite food: cheese!

The day concluded with a demostration of the Interactive Music Awareness Programme (IMAP). Delegates got a sneak preview of two of the applications, Mixer and Looper, that will be available online at www.morefrommusic.org in early 2014.

What did delegates think?

"Calibre of speakers was consistently high"

"I love the IMAP! What a fantastic achievement, a wonderfully useful resource - can't wait for the launch!!!"
