IMAP Launch

News release

Ref : 30th January 2014

Interactive Music Awareness Programme (IMAP) Launch Event @ The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (building 19, room 3011) on Thursday 30th January from 3-5 pm.

After 3 years of development and evaluation, the IMAP will be launched as a freely available online resource at www.morefrommusic.org on 30th January. The new online IMAP now includes a larger corpus music, featuring major artists Sir Cliff Richard and 10cc!

The IMAP is a music aural rehabilitation programme that has been developed with adult cochlear implant users through a series of consultations, music workshops and a trial. It comprises 24 half-hour sessions that link to interactive applications, enabling users to create and manipulate music. Applications include graphical mixers that allow users to control the instrumental/vocal mix, pitch and speed of songs, music players that allow users to select different melody and instrument combinations, and an audio and video player that enables users to combine audio and video clips to explore how music contributes to the mood, meaning and aesthetics of a film.

As a thank you to everyone who has contributed to the development and evaluation of the IMAP (through test-driving applications in workshops, giving feedback in focus groups and participating in the trial) we are holding a launch event on Thursday 30th January at the Auditory Implant Service with drinks and nibbles, demos of the online IMAP and the opportunity for you to try out the applications!

If you would like to attend the IMAP launch event, please R.S.V.P. to Jackie Allen (j.r.allen@soton.ac.uk).

Look forward to seeing you there,
