PhD Studentship entitled: Shipping Regulation for a Green/Blue Economy

Hi, I'm Adebowale Awofeso and I studied within Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute at the University of Southampton.

After graduating from the University of Hertfordshire in 2008 with an LL.B, I attended the University of Southampton and was awarded an LL.M in Maritime Law. I am currently a Postgraduate Researcher in the Faculty of Business, Law and Art and part-time tutor teaching the Carriage of Goods by Sea and Admiralty Law.

I worked for a few years as a Senior Research Assistant in the Institute of Maritime Law, having spent a brief period working as as a Research Assistant to LMAA Arbitrators.   I am an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a contributor to a website dedicated to domestic, European and international aviation law, www.aviationlaw.eu.

My PhD research requires a multidisciplinary approach that involves Law and Engineering and will aim to analyse the efforts made so far by the shipping industry on sustainable development and analyse whether improvements need to be made to the current shipping regulations and whether radical whole-scale regulation changes need to be implemented.  Potential changes to the design of ships to aid sustainability will also be investigated.  My supervisors are Professor Mikis Tsimplis (Law) and Professor Ajit Shenoi (Engineering).  Funding for my PhD studentship has been received from the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute and the Faculty of Business, Law and Art.
