PhD Studentship entitled: Autonomy and liability for unmanned ships

Hi, I'm Hannah Stones and I am a Leverhulme Trust Doctoral scholar within the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute at the University of Southampton.

The greatest aspect of doing this PhD is enhancing my knowledge of the Law while complementing it with a greater understanding of the engineering aspects of unmanned ships, which would not be possible without an inter-disciplinary-focus.

The PhD is awarded by Law. However, it is supervised between Law, and Engineering and the Environment to ensure its inter-disciplinary focus. In Law my main supervisor is Professor Mikis Tsimplis with Professor Andrew Serdy as the second supervisor, and in Engineering and the Environment my supervisor is Dr Nicholas Townsend. Professor Damon Teagle will be providing independent advice (representing the LTDS Steering Group) as part of the supervisory panel.
