Sara Lise Underhay B.Sc, M.Sc Earth Science
I am a Canadian with a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in Earth Science, specializing in Geophysics. After finishing my masters, I worked for 7 years both in Canada and in the UK. I’ve worked for the mining, oil & gas and UneXploded Ordnance industries and have had a number of jobs including field work around the world, data processing, and software training.
My research includes elements of both geoscience and computer science. I will be looking to combine seismic and magnetometry, two different types of geophysics, to map and possibly unexploded ordnance. I will then use machine learning to classify the mapped objects into useful categories.
This interdisciplinary nature of my project is reflected in my supervisory team: Prof. Adam Prugel-Bennett is a professor of computer science in the Vision, Learning and Control research group and he will be supporting the machine learning component of my project. Prof. Tim Henstock is based at the National Oceanography Center and Dr. Mark Vardy at SAND Geophysics, will be supporting the geophysical components of my project.
