Dr James Pilgrim is part of the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute at the University of Southampton.

James Pilgrim was born in Spalding, Lincolnshire in 1986. He received the BEng (Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton in 2007. Upon graduation he was appointed as a member of research staff within the School of Electronics and Computer Science, working on a range of projects in the area of HV cable systems while studying for a PhD. He was awarded the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering in 2011, after which he joined the academic staff of the University. His primary research interests are in the areas of high voltage plant, where he is actively involved in a range of industrially funded research projects. He is a Member of the IEEE and regularly attends IEEE DEIS and PES conferences, while also being involved in Cigre activities through the B1 (Insulated Cables) study committee.
