Current research expedition

A team of Southampton scientists are aboard the RRS James Cook for the next 6 weeks as part of the GEOTRACES programme.

The ship will set sail on 24th December from Port Elizabeth in South Africa to conduct a repeat survey of trace elements and isotopes along 40 degrees South, all the way to Montevideo in Uruguay.  This is one section of the international GEOTRACES programme and scientists from eleven institutes will be on board, representing four countries.

The ship will stop for water and sediment sampling along the transect and the samples are processed and analysed on board and then returned to the UK for more detailed analysis.
