Geography Professor's research to appear on channel 4 time team

Professor David Sear’s research on Dunwich is to be featured in the next episode of Time Team on Channel 4.

“I got in touch with Time Team last year in order to get a rapid assessment of the archaeology associated with the lost Hospital of the Holy Trinity (Maison Dieu), Franciscan Friary of Greyfriars, and the last evidence of the town defences all of which are threatened by coastal erosion”, says David. “We filmed for 3 days and uncovered evidence of the Lost hospital, and were able to reveal the plan of what might be the largest of the Franciscan friaries in England. We also learned that the defensive ditch was much larger than expected and up to 5m deep. “

The information the Time Team provided will be combined with the current English Heritage funded project that Professor Sear is running, to provide the most accurate evaluation of not only the marine archaeological resource but also the risk to the landward archaeology.

Professor Sear’s research can be seen on the Time Team programme on Channel 4, Sunday 5th February at 16.20hrs.
