Applications invited for marine and maritime PhD studentships

Published: 16 March 2015

Following an award by the Leverhulme Trust to the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute, applications are now invited for PhD studentships on the theme 'Understanding Maritime Futures'.

The SMMI will host a new Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarship programme which will address key global issues such as access to resources, safety and security, the effects of rising sea levels, our responses to natural and human disasters, the impacts on people, and the ways people living by and from the sea understand their experiences and cultural heritage.

The programme aims to facilitate a different, more creative and holistic way of problem solving to address marine and maritime societal challenges.

Scholarships will be funded for 3 years and include full-time UK/EU fees.  The first 5 scholarships will commence in October 2015.  Please see here for the scholarships currently being advertised.
