SMMI launches directory of facilities and expertise

Published: 6 April 2017
Directory of Facilities Expertise

SMMI successfully launched our revised Directory of Facilities and Expertise at Ocean Business 2017. Our stand was visited by hundreds of people which enabled us to connect with many companies and to generate some interesting leads.

The launch of our revised directory was based on inputs from 84 University academics covering key topic areas including Big data & security; Impact, culture & heritage; Energy & resources; Materials, structures & testing; Environment modelling & mapping; Robotics & autonomous systems and Vessel design & performance.

The directory is available in hard copy and through the download below. If you would like to add your facilities and expertise to the directory please contact Sue Smith, SMMI Coordinator . The directory will be updated regularly.

In addition to our stand in the Ocean Business exhibition, SMMI had a presence in the conference programme. Dr Simon Gerrard presented on sensor developments at the Dual Use workshop run by Marine South East which investigated the potential for military and commercial uses of marine technologies to be more closely aligned. The overwhelmingly positive reactions to the concept of dual use is leading to the creation of a working group to take forward the concept in practical ways.

Enabling greater access to the huge range of facilities at the University is one way in which SMMI can help the marine and maritime sectors to enhance their research, development and innovation activities. This directory is another way in which people can quickly find out what resources are available and contact the right experts to discuss their needs.
