SMMI members Professor Emily Reid and Dr Jenny Zhang recently provided expert evidence to the House of Lords European Union Select Committee, EU Internal Market sub-committee as part of the sub-committee’s Inquiry on Future EU-UK Transport Arrangements.

They were invited to provide oral evidence relating to the maritime transport sector, following a written report "The UK maritime sectors beyond Brexit" which had been completed by members of the Institute of Maritime Law and Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute in 2017.

Members of the committee asked Professor Reid and Dr Zhang questions relating to the potential post-Brexit opportunities and challenges to the maritime transport sector, in response to which Professor Reid and Dr Zhang advised the committee of the potential impact of Brexit across a wide range of international and domestic, public and private law regulatory issues.   The evidence provided will contribute to the report of the committee’s Inquiry, which is expected early in 2019.

The recording and transcript of the evidence session is available at www.parliament.uk.
