Event details

2018 marks 50 years since Deep Sea Drilling Project (DSDP) drilled seven sites in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, and started 50 years of international co-operation in scientific ocean drilling.

Join us for a two-day celebration of scientific ocean drilling at the Natural History Museum, London on 27-28 September 2018. Through a series of invited keynote lectures from national and international leaders across the scientific ocean drilling community, we will celebrate the achievements of the past 50 years and the future of what is arguably the most successful, enduring multinational science collaboration. In addition, there will be opportunities for all attendees to present posters of their own research.

We welcome scientists from all levels of the UK-IODP community to attend, including those not previously involved in scientific drilling expeditions.

All attendees are invited to attend an IODP dinner at an external venue, where Professor Joe Cann FRS will be the after dinner speaker. The approximate cost of the dinner will be £50; there is no registration fee for the main meeting.

To apply to attend, please complete the online registration form.

Numbers for this event are limited. Registration closes on 1 September 2018. We will confirm registration in early September.

Convenors: Professor Damon Teagle (University of Southampton) and Professor Richard Herrington (Natural History Museum, London).
