Research project: Lacustrine archaeology: potential indicators for recent crustal movements. A Swedish case study: Lake Vattern - Dormant - Dormant

Currently Active:

In May/June 1999 the High Resolution Seismology Group conducted a side scan and chirp sonar survey in Lake Vättern, South-Central Sweden.

Isostatic readjustment following the last Ice Age has resulted in the lake having been tilted such that water levels in Jönkoping and Huskvarna Bays have been rising for several thousand years.

Local divers have made numerous finds in Huskvarne Bay, but little had been done in the larger Jönkoping Bay. Over 100 km of sidescan and chirp data was collected during the May/June survey, which has yielded a large number of targets requiring further investigation.
